Welcome to my first blog of 2019 – I trust that you had a good Christmas break and enjoyed the festivities.  We had a very busy term from September to December and so all felt ready for the break to re-charge our batteries.

We have now returned feeling invigorated and ready to get back to the important job of encouraging all our students to achieve their very best.  We have such a short time together and so it is vital that we maximise the opportunities that arise every day.  For our Y11 students, this is now the countdown period towards their summer exams and for our Y10 students, they will also start their own preparations with mock exams.

Between January and Easter we will hold 3 parents’ evenings for Y8, Y9 and Y10 students and I strongly encourage parents/carers to attend these events so that we can support our students with guidance and encouragement towards success.

At the start of this year, we welcomed new staff to the Westleigh School Community, namely Mrs Malone as the new Head of RE/PSHE; Mr Glover as the Head of Boys’ PE; Miss Graves to a Science teaching position and Miss Cleveland joins Humanities.  They have all commented on how friendly our community has been so far and I am sure that this will help them to feel at home quickly.

Already this year a group of students have visited Manchester University’s languages faculty and we have received excellent feedback from both the students and the university about this visit.

Our first Parents’ and Friends of Westleigh meeting of 2019 will take place on 21 January 2019 at 7.00pm.  These meetings are growing in support and I thoroughly recommend joining a meeting whenever possible.  It is an opportunity to share with parents/carers what takes place in our school; what our aspirations are and how we aim to achieve them.  We need help and support to do this and the school community benefits when we work together.

Kind regards
